These examples are phrased to provide unrestricted support to Loomis Chaffee; each can easily be adapted to become a restricted bequest for a specific purpose (for example, to add to an existing named fund or to support a specific program of special interest). We strongly encourage a discussion of potential restrictions with the Development Office before a bequest is finalized.

Specific bequest: “I give, devise, and bequeath [describe property to be given, e.g., $100,000, 100 shares of a type of stock] to The Loomis Institute, a nonprofit corporation, organizing and existing under the laws of the State of Connecticut, and with a principal business address of 4 Batchelder Road, Windsor, Connecticut, for its general educational and charitable purposes.”

Residuary bequest: “I give, devise, and bequeath [choose a percentage to be given, e.g. 50] percent of my residuary estate to The Loomis Institute, a nonprofit corporation, organizing and existing under the laws of the State of Connecticut, and with a principal address of 4 Batchelder Road, Windsor, Connecticut, for its general educational and charitable purposes.” (This means that Loomis will receive a specified percentage of the remaining balance of the estate after all specific distributions are made and all obligations have been satisfied.)

Contingent bequest: “I give, devise, and bequeath [dollar amount or property to be given] to The Loomis Institute, a nonprofit corporation, organizing and existing under the laws of the State of Connecticut, and with a principal business address of 4 Batchelder Road, Windsor, Connecticut, for its general educational and charitable purposes, should [insert a condition, e.g., my spouse not be living at the time of my demise].”
